People stand and sit along the Spree embankment under strings of hanging lights, and a small covered passenger boat moves downstream past the quay. A banner on the quay wall reads Monbijoutheater. The Monbijou Theatre is an open-air theatre in Monbijoupark, and its wooden amphitheatre is built each summer on the roof of a former World War II bunker. The rococo Monbijou Palace stood on this park site until it was demolished in 1959.
