The Tube Escalator, Elbphilharmonie

HAMBURG, GERMANY · 06 Sep 2026 · TWELVE SECONDS
People stand on the two lanes of a long escalator inside a white curved tunnel, its walls covered with small reflective discs and a light strip running along each side. This escalator, known as the Tube, is 82 metres long and is the longest curved escalator in Western Europe. It runs up through the older Kaispeicher warehouse to a panorama window on the 6th floor. Around 8,000 glass sequins line the tunnel walls.
The archive does not edit, trim, or re-frame what it receives. The recording is the camera's own output; the archive's only interventions are cataloguing it and preparing a copy that will play.
