Enrolment and Recovery
Becoming a witness, and what happens if you lose access to your device.

Enrolling as a witness
Enrolment happens in the app, never on the website. It asks for the name that should appear on your recordings, and your agreement to a short deposit agreement covering what you give, what you keep, and what can still change after a recording is accessioned. A brief on-device confirmation affirms that agreement before your witness number is issued.

A reading account and a witness record are the same account
You do not need a separate identity to become a witness. If you already read the archive, enrolling links a witness record to that same account; your reading stays exactly as private as it was before.

There is no password to reset
Nobody can send a witness a reset link in 2126. Instead, at enrolment you choose one of two recovery routes: naming a recovery custodian, who can vouch for you but never gains access to your record themselves, or a printed certificate carrying your witness number and accession list, kept somewhere safe by you.

A witness number is issued once, at enrolment, and never reused.

A recovery route — custodian or certificate — is chosen at enrolment and can be changed later.

A recovery custodian can vouch for a witness but is never granted access to their record.

Enrolling as a witness does not change how a reader’s own activity is shown to others: not at all.
